What is Mamiya RAW Image?
MEF (Mamiya Electronic Format) is a raw image file format generated by Mamiya medium format and DSLR digital cameras. Because it stores uncompressed or losslessly compressed sensor data without applying the camera's internal white balance, sharpening, or color adjustments, it provides photographers with maximum flexibility during post-processing. Specialized software is required to decode and render the raw sensor mosaic into a viewable RGB image.
Advantages
- Contains uncompressed or losslessly compressed raw sensor data
- Allows precise adjustment of white balance, exposure, and color temperature during post-processing
- Preserves maximum highlight and shadow detail
- Non-destructive editing workflow
Limitations
- Proprietary format requires specific software support to open
- Large file sizes consume significant storage space
- Requires conversion or export to standard formats like JPEG or TIFF for sharing and web use
