Which color format do I need?

HEX (#3B82F6) is the standard in CSS and design tools. Each pair of digits is the red, green and blue channel from 00 to FF; an optional fourth pair sets transparency.

RGB gives the same three channels as numbers from 0 to 255 — the format screens use. HSL describes a color as hue (0–360°), saturation and lightness, which makes it easy to make a color lighter or less vivid by changing one number.

HSV (also called HSB) is what Photoshop and Figma color pickers show. CMYK is the ink model of print: cyan, magenta, yellow and black.

The CMYK values here are the standard mathematical conversion. A printer's own color profile will differ, so for production print check a proof.

Frequently asked questions

Type the HEX code — for example #3B82F6 — and the RGB line shows rgb(59, 130, 246). Short codes like #f00 and codes with transparency like #FF000080 work too.
Screens mix light and printers mix ink; the range of colors differs. The conversion here is mathematical, without an ICC profile, so use it as a starting point.
Yes. rgba(), hsla() and 8-digit HEX carry an alpha channel, and the preview shows it over a checkerboard.
